Who Serves Salt Lake's Best Burger?

Monday October 5, 2009

What's SLC's best burger?

I've had burgers on the brain lately. California-based In-n-Out Burger will open eight new locations in Utah in October and November, including one in my neighborhood. The prospect of cheap but fresh and tasty beef and potatoes served up with a little California ambiance has Utah in a bit of a burger frenzy. In-n-Out will be competing Utah's other better-than-fast-food newcomer, Five Guys Burgers and Fries, as well as old standbys like Crown Burger, Arctic Circle and Hires Big H.

I was amused recently to read in the New York Times food blog about the pastrami burger being a Utah phenomenon. I guess I didn't realize that the rest of the nation doesn't make a habit of piling a sizeable stack of pastrami slices on a thick beef patty and putting the whole thing in a bun with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and Thousand Island dressing. The pastrami burger started in California, but Greek Americans like the Katsanevas family, founders of Crown Burger, made it a Salt Lake City standby.

Who do you think serves Salt Lake City's best burger? Will you be one of the thousands dashing to the grand opening of the nearest In-n-Out, or will you stick with one of your old favorites? Vote today!

I think @IN_N_OUT_BURGER is by far the best burger there is! When I get to CA I make sure it’s one of the first places I eat. I can’t wait until they get out here!

I live in California now, and I love In N Out. However, it’s not my favorite. My favorite is a tie between Crown Burger and Hires Big H.

Hires has a similar flavor to In N Out, but I like that you have more choices of things to add to the basic Big H.

Plus Hires better buns than In N Out, Hires has better fries than In N Out, and do I even need to mention the fresh limeade?

I can’t believe you didn’t include B&D Burgers on 200 S and 1300 East in this poll. They have the BEST burgers (especially the avocado burger, which has an entire HALF avocado on it!), and amazing zucchini fries as well! Shame!

My favorite burger for many years has been Fudruckers. I like my burger THICK and on the rare side – Fudruckers is one of the very few places that will actually cook a burger to order rare or medium-rare. Add to that a do-it-yourself fixings bar to adorn the burger just the way you like it, and I think they’ve got everyone else on the list beat.
