In-n-Out Opens in Draper and Orem

Hordes of happy, hungry Utahns waited for burgers and fries at In-n-Out Burger's new Draper location Thursday.

"It's a new era in Utah," In-n-Out Burger fans told me as they waited for cheeseburgers and fries outside the California-based restaurant chain's new Draper location, which opened today. The walk-up line stretched around the building, and the drive-up line stretched around the block as hordes of hungry Utahns converged on the state's newest and most highly anticipated fast food restaurant. In-n-Out opened both its Draper and Orem locations today, and several more Utah locations will open in the next few weeks.

Walk-up customers waited in line about 30 minutes to order and another 15 minutes for their food to be prepared when I visited the restaurant at lunchtime, and the counter and kitchen staff seemed to be working at full capacity. "We're very ecstatic at all the customers that are here," said Kristi Calmy, In-n-Out's Utah divisional manager.

Three girls who were "taking a break" from a nearby middle school told me their food was "so good," and that they had waited in line about half an hour. The Holton and Saunders families, who had come to Draper from Highland to visit the new restaurant, said they had fallen in love with In-n-Out while living in San Diego and were very excited to see it come to Utah. "In-n-Out is just bigger than life," they said.

Try the “Animal” burger and “animal” fries. They are on the ‘hidden’ menu.

Do a google search for “In N Out secret menu” and you can find the whole thing. (I dont think I can leave a link here). Animal Style is indeed quite delish, and I don’t even like onions :D

Hell. Quoting middle school girls as saying “so good”? Is this journalism? Why trying to explain why a simple burger place could have such an impact?? Like us small towners having serious cosmopolitan striving issues attached to california based culture

Re Jason:

Your totally right about all of that.
1) Ridiculous quote.
2) Ditto on the ridiculousness of Utahns having issues striving for California culture.

Utah has so much to be proud of and to offer exclusive of California. I would argue our LOCAL Greek immigrant population has really done Burgers right (better than In-N-Out) with Apollo, Crown, and Burgers Supreme. Not to mention other good local spots like JCW’s. Plus there are so many other nice things about Utah unique from California. So all you former Californians now living in Utah: Get over it (that also means you Dad–and myself too)!

You guys are so cool for knowing the In-n-out secret menu. What’s the next thing you’re going to steal from California? Fashion sense and the ability to do your hair without ratting it? Good luck! :)

So Jason and Josh,
Have you eaten at In-N-Out? Although I love Big Jims, Apollo, Crown, and the like, In-N-Out is just a completely different breed. Comparing them to each other is like comparing McDonalds to Crown burger. They’re just not the same. You want pastrami, go greek. You want a straight up burger and fries done right, In-N-Out does it like no other. The food is what created the cult following in California, and is what creates it here. Nobody is trying to pretend to be Californian, just get an amazing meal.

Went to the Orem store and it was really good, a lot like McDonald’s but with fresher tasting meat. I like fries at McDs better though.
