Sometimes it surprises me how many Utahns want to ski or snowboard but have just never learned. Skiing and snowboarding are great ways to get above the valley haze, get into the sunshine, get some exercise and actually enjoy Utah's winters. Admittedly skiing is expensive, but Utah's ski resorts want to help you out this month by offering special deals on beginner lessons, lift passes and equipment rentals. Most of the specials are only for to Utah residents over the age of 13, but some are for kids as well.

For example, Alta offers four 2-hour lessons, four beginner lift passes and four days ski rental for $179, valid any four days of the season excluding holidays. Deer Valley offers beginner lessons, lift passes and equipment rental for $13 each, $39 total. Park City offers afternoon ski or snowboard lessons and lift access with equipment rental for $25, with the opportunity to come back and get the same deal four additional times during the season. Other resorts offer similar deals. There are restrictions, so see Ski Utah's website for details.
