Most of Salt Lake's high schools start the new year this week, and back-to-school season brings the unique excitement of high school football. Four Salt Lake area prep teams will have a chance to play at two of SLC's top sports venues this weekend:
- The Bingham Miners will take on their arch-rivals the Alta Hawks at Rice-Eccles Stadium Saturday, Aug. 28 at 5 p.m. The Miners, last year's 5A champions and number nine in the CBS sports national rankings, are 1-o after pounding Viewmont 51-0 last Friday. The Hawks, who were ranked number two behind the Miners in Utah preseason polls, are 0-1 after being upset by the Cottonwood Colts 28-21. Tickets for Bingham vs. Alta are $10 for adults and $5 for children high school age and under and can be purchased at the Rice-Eccles box office.
- The Hillcrest Huskies will play the Murray Spartans at Rio Tinto Stadium Friday, Aug. 27 at 7:30 p.m. The Huskies are 1-0 after defeating Herriman High 17-7 last Friday. The Spartans are also 1-0 after a 28-10 win over Ogden. Tickets for Hillcrest vs. Murray are $9 for adults and $6 for children and are available online or at the Rio Tinto box office.
