
Salt Lake City theater fans can look forward to a few daring, fresh and original new shows, along with several beloved classics, for the recently announced 2012 seasons at Pioneer Memorial Theatre and Hale Centre Theatre.
The 2012 season at Pioneer Memorial Theatre opens with the Utah premiere of the 2010 Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Next to Normal (Sept. 16-Oct. 1, 2011); followed by Shakespeare's The Tempest (Oct. 21-Nov. 5, 2011); the timeless rags-to-riches musical Annie for the Christmas season (Dec. 2-23, 2011); the world premiere of Find and Sign by Wendy MacLeod (Jan. 13-28, 2012); Jane Austen's Emma (Feb. 17-March 3, 2012); Laughing Stock by PTC Artistic Director Charles Morey (March 23-April 7, 2012); and the triumphant musical Man of La Mancha (May 4-19, 2012). The 2012 season is the outgoing season for Pioneer Theatre Company Artistic Director Charles Morey.
The 2012 season at Hale Centre Theatre begins with the New Year's Eve opening of the mystery The Game's Afoot (Dec. 31, 2011-Feb. 4, 2012); followed by the U.S. premiere of Zorro, the Musical (Feb. 15-April 11, 2012), which has enjoyed successful runs in London, Moscow, Tokyo and Amsterdam. Following Zorro, HCT will present Father of the Bride (April 16-May 26), The Sound of Music (June 6-Aug. 4, 2012), Nine to Five: the Musical (Aug. 15-Sept. 29, 2012), and Oliver! (Oct. 10-Dec. 1, 2102). Hale's 2012 season will end with its 28th annual production of Charles Dickens' classic, A Christmas Carol (Dec. 8-22, 2012).
