The Olympic Games are popular in Utah, with many Salt Lake City residents having fond memories of the best party the city ever had in 2002. Ten years later, athletes at the 2012 Olympic Games in London will be competing for medals made of ore taken from Utah's Kennecott copper mine. Like the medals, many of this year's Olympic athletes are "Utah material."
Athletes with Utah connections will compete in track and field, volleyball, cycling, swimming and basketball, representing the USA, Canada, Russia, Bolivia and El Salvador. The athletes come from the Utah Jazz, the University of Utah, Brigham Young University and Southern Utah University, as well as Lone Peak, Highland, Bountiful and Skyline high schools. Watch for Utah's Olympic athletes and cheer on their success in London over the next 16 days.
