Utah's Healing Field, an annual display that has become a beloved tradition, is open to the public now through Wednesday, Sept. 12 south of the Sandy City Hall, at 10000 Centennial Parkway. The display commemorates the events of September 11, 2001 and includes more than 3000 flags, one for each victim of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
A permanent bronze statue at the site depicts three firefighters raising a U. S. flag, inspired by the famous photograph of three firemen who raised the flag amid the rubble of the World Trade Center. The statue was created last year to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the attacks.
The display is sponsored by local company Colonial Flag, along with other community sponsors. Volunteers are welcome to help take down the flags Wednesday at 6 p.m., or to donate money for next year's display through the Healing Field website.
