The Beehive Tea Room offers traditional English afternoon tea service by reservation at least 24 hours in advance, Wednesday through Sunday at 2 p.m. Afternoon tea includes vegetarian finger sandwiches, scones, dessert, and a choice of beverages - tea, hot chocolate or Italian soda. A special afternoon tea menu is also available for children. The Beehive Tea Room's Willow Room is a popular venue for bridal showers and other parties; reservations are required. They also have a wedding planning library full of books and magazines for bridal browsing.
I love to visit Beehive Tea Room in the afternoon, to work on the computer, read, or just relax with my thoughts. It's also a wonderful place to gather and catch up with friends. The service is not quick, so it's not the type of place you want to go if you're in a hurry. It's best to order at the counter when you first walk in, and then sit at your table to wait for your order.
The tea is served in antique china pots and cups, and each pot serves one or two people. With more than 30 varieties, it would take a while to sample them all, but the chai, either green or spiced, is one of their most popular drinks. The food and dessert menu is simple but lovely, with plenty of vegetarian selections. I recommend the Beehive Salad and the English Tea scones.
The decor is the real star at the Beehive Tea Room, and the place is absolutely stuffed with mid-century upholstered chairs, carved wood, wall murals, lace curtains and antique artworks, evoking the atmosphere of a simpler time. Mid-century jazz music adds to the ambience. Tables are placed throughout several small rooms, so you can wander through the restaurant, pick your favorite spot, and enjoy the feeling of a more refined, bygone era.
