'Dead Sea Scrolls' at The Leonardo

The Leonardo

"Dead Sea Scrolls: Life and Faith in Ancient Times" includes one of the largest collections of the priceless 2,000-year-old Dead Sea Scrolls. Discovered by a shepherd in 1947, the Scrolls contain the oldest known copies of the Hebrew Bible. On display with the Scrolls are more than 600 objects from the Biblical to Byzantine Period in Israel, including many that have never been publicly exhibited.

Utah Symphony: Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Natalie MacMaster, and Grieg

The Utah Symphony presents 5 programs in February:

  • "Mozart & Shostakovich": Friday and Saturday, Feb 7-8, 8 p.m. Shostakovich's Symphony No. 7 is a grand paean to Leningrad and her besieged inhabitants as the Nazi's surrounded and virtually destroyed the city in 1941.
  • "Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto": Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14-15, 8 p.m. Celebrate Valentine's Day with the Utah Symphony and one of history's finest Romantic-era violin concertos.
  • "The Magic of Harry Potter": Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 18-19, 7 p.m. Explore the fantasy and excitement of Hogwarts and other mystical lands as the Utah Symphony takes you on a journey of magic through music.
  • "Natalie MacMaster": Friday and Saturday, Feb. 21-22, 8 p.m. Cape Breton Island fiddling sensation Natalie Macmaster returns to Salt Lake City for a fiery program of Celtic melodies and dances with the Utah Symphony. Macmaster has achieved worldwide renown for her electrifying technique and captivating charm.
  • "Grieg's Piano Concerto": Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28-Mar. 1, 8 p.m. Utah Symphony performs a pair of landmark Scandinavian works that were inspired by visits to Italy. Grieg was only 25 when he composed his Piano Concerto but he was already in command of a distinctly Norwegian musical voice.
