The Bottom Line

The Oasis Cafe in Salt Lake City is truly an oasis in the downtown selection of restaurants. Located next to the Golden Braid Bookstore, the Oasis Cafe caters to a spiritual community. The peaceful atmosphere, combined with a wonderful selection of food for breakfast, lunch and dinner makes this little restaurant a haven for those looking for a break from their day.

Pros

  • Vegetarian, Vegan or not - this place will cater to you.
  • Relaxed, calming atmosphere.
  • Excellent choices of teas, coffees and wines.
  • Choice of outdoor patio seating, courtyard seating or indoor dining.
  • Not too crowded and has good parking for the downtown location.

Cons

  • If you park in the parking lot, you have to go down a flight of stairs to get to the restaurant.
  • Some consider the menu a little pricey.

Description

  • 151 South 500 East in Salt Lake City.
  • Parking is accessible on the North side of the building. Go up the small ramp to the right. You'll enter and go down stairs.
  • No reservations required. No children's menu. I rarely see many children dining here but they are not actively discouraged.
  • If the restaurant seems busy, ask for outdoor seating in good weather. Inside can get a little noisy.
  • This is a good spot for business lunches or other formal-but-informal type of get-togethers.
  • Browse the unique Golden Braid Bookstore before leaving and have a Tarot Card or palm reading.

Guide Review - Oasis Cafe Restaurant Review

The Food

Breakfast

At breakfast, you have your choice of several types of dishes, from Mexican platters to standard eggs, potatoes and toast deal. The food is well cooked, nicely plated and served in reasonable portions. Of course each entree can be tweaked to accommodate vegetarian or vegan diners and there are plenty of healthy, fresh choices. I highly recommend the breakfast burrito or the huevos rancheros.

Lunch & Dinner

Along with your lunch or dinner, your server will bring out a plate of bread and butter or olive oil. I absolutely recommend all of the salads and soups for a healthy, light lunch. The salmon is always a good choice as well. Each entree is beautifully plated, making this a culinary experience for the eyes as well as for the palate.

The Drinks

Besides your standard sodas and water, the Oasis Cafe is known for their teas and coffees. The coffee beans are freshly ground and there is a varied selection for the tea-lover. Oasis Cafe does have a liquor license and wines, beers and other mixed drinks are available.

The Service

The servers are always very polite, on top of the drinks and prompt to bring out your food. There is very little wait between the time you order and the time the food is brought to your table. The food is freshly cooked and made from fresh ingredients by the chefs who inspect each entree before it hits the deck.

The Atmosphere

As its name implies, the Oasis Cafe is designed to be a refreshing, relaxing retreat away from the worries of the world. There are carefully placed water features that trickle softly in the background. Next door to the Oasis Cafe is the Golden Braid bookstore, which features spiritual texts on enlightenment. Various statues of Buddha in different poses are displayed.

The Cause

Each meal and book you buy feeds or educates a child in Africa through the Reach The Children charity.
