When carried out with care and quality, a humble task can be a thing of beauty. Salt City Burger Company, located in the unassuming Quarry Bend shopping center in Sandy, demonstrates this principle by serving a simple but well executed menu of burgers, fries and salads in a warm, inviting atmosphere.
Salt City's burgers are 1/3 or 1/4 pound, USDA Choice beef, ground on site and char-broiled. The meat is on the lean side. You can order one of Salt City's specialty burgers, such as the Southwest Burger or the Smokehouse Bacon Blues, or you can order a plain burger and customize it with toppings from the toppings bar. The basic burger is $4.29 for 1/4 pound or $5.49 for 1/3 pound, with premium toppings extra.
On a recent visit, my dining companion had the 1/3 pound cheeseburger, and I had the generous mixed green salad with grilled chicken. Both were above average. We also shared and order of the excellent half-and-half fries, half russet and half sweet potato, hand cut with the skins on. Salt City also serves turkey burgers, veggie burgers, grilled chicken sandwiches, homemade onion rings, hot dogs and chili. For dessert, they offer shakes and root beer floats made with premium ice cream.
Although they don't serve alcohol, Salt City Burger Co. has a tavern-like atmosphere, with lots of dark wood and sports on TV. On our visit, the service was courteous and prompt, with the server transmitting our order directly to the grill via handheld computer.
