The Sky Box Sports Grille is a sports-themed restaurant and bar with locations at The Gateway and in South Jordan. It features an all-ages restaurant, an adults-only sports bar, and an arcade.
I visited The Sky Box recently during a Utah-BYU basketball game, and the place was packed with excited sports fans. The Sky Box has dozens of TV screens, large and small, including an 18-foot screen in the sports bar area. The screens showed a variety of sports events, so while I watched the Utah-BYU game I kept an eye on the Winter X Games as well.
The Sky Box serves patrons of all ages, so those under 21 are welcome in the restaurant and arcade, while only adults are allowed in the sports bar. Tables in the sports bar are tiered, stadium style, so everyone has a good view of the 18-foot giant TV screen and surrounding smaller screens. During the most popular sporting events, the management may enforce a $7 per person per hour minimum.
The Sky Box serves decent bar food, and there's something for everyone on the menu. The halibut and chips and the strawberry salad are customer favorites.
I had the Mahi Mahi tacos. The Mahi Mahi was all right, not extremely fresh, but spicy and flavorful. It was served on three grilled corn tortillas and topped with cabbage and Monterey jack cheese, with Spanish rice, black beans, sour cream and salsa fresca on the side. I ordered the guacamole for $1.89 extra, which was delicious. All this was piled high on my plate, so instead of picking the tacos up, I had to eat them with a knife and fork. If I ordered the dish again I would ask for the tortillas on the side. My companion had the Cobb salad, which was enormous and tasty.
