I've been eating at The Pie almost since it opened in 1982, and I've gotten consistently good food served in a fun atmosphere. The pizza is made with a thick, bready crust, lots of cheese, and fresh, high-quality meats and vegetables. My favorite pizza is the Stromboli, with pepperoni, onions, bell peppers and Italian sausage. The Pie also serves sandwiches, salads, desserts, manicotti, baked subs and calzones.
One thing that sets The Pie's menu apart from most pizzerias is that their largest pizza is a gigantic 23 inches. The 23-inch pizzas feed 10-12 people and are priced at $26.99-$41.99, making The Pie an excellent place to have a party or get pizza for a party.
The Pie's university location, in the basement under the University Pharmacy, is almost hidden from the outside with only a relatively small sign and an arrow pointing customers downstairs. Inside, the atmosphere is warm, pleasant and friendly, with lots of university students and faculty enjoying their pizza and perhaps a beer or two.
Pie employees encourage customers to write and create artwork on the restaurant's brick walls, so it can be a lot of fun just to walk around and admire other people's creativity. The same fun, funky atmosphere and graffiti-covered brick walls can be found at all The Pie's dine-in locations.
