Special events honoring Utah veterans are planned throughout the Salt Lake Valley on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11.

1. All-Day Events Honoring Veterans at the University of Utah

8:45-10:15 a.m.

Panel Discussion: "After the Battlefield: Advances in Medical and Psychological Treatments of Veterans Today and Tomorrow"
Union Theatre, Olpin Union Building

The panel's topic revolves around the present and future of military medicine - what is being done now and what future problems and treatments might look like.

11 a.m.

Full Dress Military Ceremony and 21-Gun Salute
Ballroom, Olpin Union Building

The ceremony will pay tribute to 11 Utah veteran honorees, who will receive honorary medallions followed by a cannon salute. The Honorees are veterans of World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam.

12:30 p.m.

University of Utah Student Veterans Reception
Ballroom, Olpin Union Building

A special reception and light buffet honoring U. of U. student veterans
Performance by the Phoenix Swing Band

8 a.m.-2 p.m.

3. Riverton Veterans Day Concert

The Riverton Metropolitan Orchestra celebrates Veterans Day with a concert titled “In Flander’s Field—Heroes Remembered.”

4. LGBT Veterans Rally at the Utah State Capitol

12 noon

Utah State Capitol Rotunda

On Veteran’s Day, the Utah Pride Center will host a rally at noon in the State Capitol Rotunda to recognize LGBT veterans and active-duty service members. State Rep. Christine Johnson, a Salt Lake City Democrat, plans to announce a resolution urging Congress to end “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.”
