Six miners were killed at Crandall Canyon Mine in Emery County on August 6, 2007 while performing a dangerous form of mining called retreat mining. Murray Energy Corporation owner, Robert E. Murray has had several mines cited for safety violations by the Mine Safety and Health Administration - MSHA, before and after the Crandall Canyon disaster.
