Father's Day 2012 is June 17, and if your dad is anything like mine you might find it difficult to think of the perfect gift. Does your dad really need another tie or set of screwdrivers? Maybe instead you should spend some time with dear old dad and create a lasting memory with one of these Salt Lake City event and activity Father's Day gifts.

Chalk Art Festival at The Gateway
The Chalk Art Festival is a Salt Lake City Father's Day weekend tradition, and each year more than 100 artists and 20,000 visitors flock to The Gateway to experience the unique performance art of street painting. The event raises awareness and funds for the Utah Foster Care Foundation. Before or after looking at the chalk art, you could take Dad to one of The Gateway's restaurants including Biaggi's, Tucano's, Fleming's, 'Bout Time, Wing Nutz, Thaifoon, California Pizza Kitchen, Happy Sumo, Z'Tejas and more, then top off the evening with a treat from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory.

Raft the Provo
The Provo River offers mild to moderate (class II) whitewater and is the closest whitewater rafting opportunity to Salt Lake City. Trips generally last about 2 hours, and many include lunch or dinner.
Guided Fly Fishing
Courtesy Utah fly Guides
Utah's Provo River offers wonderful fly fishing, and there are lots of other great fly fishing spots near Salt Lake City. A day fly fishing with Dad is a day you'll never forget. One of my favorite outfitters is Utah Fly Guides.
Bobsled Rides at Utah Olympic Park
A trained pilot will take Dad and two other passengers through 15 curves, reaching speeds up to 70 miles per hour and pulling close to five Gs of force. The "Comet" bobsled ride is not for the faint of heart!
Price: $60 per person
Paragliding and Hang Gliding at Point of the Mountain
Round of Golf
There are 34 golf courses in the Salt Lake area, and many offer gift certificates. Contact your dad's favorite course to find out if they are offering specials for Father's Day.
